      Go unlucky and received a unit from a lower quality batch. No support for the ICs, missing resistor meaning the power LED does not work, badly connected resistor, and even an inductance mounted SMD style because the leads were cut too short. The solder joints have not been heated enough and the solder did not penetrate in the vias. The board is pretty dirty (flux and solder residues that could short tracks).
      Otherwise, the device works and is quite cheap. It comes with a lot of accessories which is useful.

      Cheaper geiger counter

      This is a good geiger counter at cheaper price, perfect to connect with a ESP or arduino module to make a portable radioactivity meter. The board show the particle detected via a buzzer a red led and via TTL pulse output. The module can be connected to battery pack (primary or NI-Mh cell) or directly powered from an Arduino or ESP module via 5V pin. Useful to continuos meter the enviromental radioactivity.

        VIN normally stand for the input voltage, straight from the battery or power circuit. It's expected to not vary at all. You need to find an ouput as a signal.

        Q: Hello, I purchased two counters to make a muon detector. They both arrived safely and seem to work, however one of the counters sometimes just turns on constantly and the counter and light stay on and the noise is constant screech. Any ideas why? Thanks.

        I would get a magnifier and check the soldered joints, look for shorts, loose connections or dull looking dry joints. If any issues are seen, you will probably need to do some resoldering, hopefully that solves it for you.

        Q: My assembled Geiger counter just arrived. The power light comes on, the high voltage appears to be correct, and touching the - connector of the tube with a probe does cause beeping and D23 to light briefly, but it is silent when left alone. Is there a way to test the tube? The tube seems intact, but I don't know what I'm looking for. I believe it should detect some background radiation, perhaps a click every few seconds?

        Q: My Geiger module generates series of false clicks. For example it works normally for 20 seconds and then generates 15 false click in 1 second. Normal background radiation is 12-20 clicks per minute. Can I repair the module or do something?

        IF it’s recurring at regular 1min intervals, perhaps it may proof useful to check the condensators soldering to the PCB and -or- possible influence by near short circuiting with other parts. I.e. bend them to another position. IF this does not work, just to make sure, move the Geiger teller to another location a couple of km’s away and check again. You never know if it accidentally does register correct.... Than you have an interesting case to solve =:)

        Instructions: 1. Download the arduino IDE 2. Download the USB chip driver 3. Plug in the UNO development board and the driver will be installed automatically. 4. Select the board in the die UNO 5. Select the COM port, this can be queried in my computer, just the port inside your uno development board 6. It is best to choose the routine program that comes with arduino and burn it into it.

        Jumper J4 TEST apparently doesn't matter. Removing it would disconnect a series of 10M resistors leading to a test point J2 that is open circuit anyway. Mine is in place and works fine. See the schematic, linked in Description.

        I would say you can change the geiger tube as long it have same working voltage as this unit, or you can wrap this tube in some metal foil so only particles with higher energy levels do get counted and alfa particles get blocked by metal foil
